On Feb 26th, 2011, in Soc Son district, Hanoi, Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) in coordination with the Institute of Ecological Economy (EcoEco) – under the Union of Vietnam Science and Technology Associations and Soc Son People’s Committee has launched the project “Toyota-EcoEco tropical forest model - restoring 30ha of tropical forest on hilly Soc Son and reshaping Giong Temple’s landscape, Hanoi”. This project is one of environment activities of Go Green program, which initiated and has been implemented by TMV in coordination with General Department of Environment and the Ministry of Education and Training since 2008.
Regarding this situation, the project “Toyota-EcoEco tropical forest model - restoring 30ha of tropical forest on hilly Soc Son and restructuring Giong temple’s landscape, Hanoi” aims at restoring the tropical forest with valuable trees from different ecological areas with their own endemic structures, variety, layer, age and high bio-diversity. The project will contribute to improving the ecosystem of tropical forest, preserving bio-diversity, embellishing the landscape of Giong temple and raising environmental protection awareness of the local community. Through the implementation of this project, the tropical forest in Soc Son will be restored; especially the forest around Giong temple will be the central concern to promote the reestablishment of the ecosystem of this tropical forest.
The project wil be implemented in 7 years, from 2010 to 2016 with the content: Planting 25 ha new forested square of tropical forest with different ecological areas; Taking care and protecting 5 ha experimented model to restore the tropical forest planted during the period 2006-2008; establishing Eco-Exposion Area (including the showroom for tropical forest resources and botanic garden for displaying documents, publications, forest specimens and introducing the bio-diversity of Soc Son tropical forest, as well as Toyota-EcoEco Eco-Camp area for environment protection education activities.
At the launching ceremony, there were many activities such as project launching rite, tree planting rite, observation around Toyota-EcoEco exhibition… which were warmly participated by officials, reporters, GGC and local people
This scientific project will bring positive impacts to resources; environment as well as socio-economic benefits, helping to harmonize the climate for the whole area, reducing environment degradation resulted from the industrialization and urbanization process. Moreover, the project will help the community, particularly residents of Hanoi, Red River Delta provinces and young people as well, aware of the special structure and diversity of Vietnam’s tropical forest. The recovered forest area will be considered as the natural tropical forest museum inside Hanoi, which will contribute to the environment protection education activities. Therefore, the restoring of 30ha tropical forest in the hilly Soc Son and restructuring the landscape of Giong temple are not beneficial for Hanoian only, but also for the country’s and foreign friends to realize the importance of nature conservation and traditional culture protection of Vietnamese people
